Janet Weirich was born and raised in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Her grandparents had a collection of fine art paintings that captured her attention at an early age. Her favorite pastime as a child was drawing or sculpting horses, but it wasn’t until she left the corporate world she decided to become an artist.
Her first workshops were with David Leffel and Sherrie McGraw. Soon she was entering competitions and selling her pieces, but it didn’t take long to realize there was so much more to learn. She went back to the beginning to study all of the basics – drawing, composition, values, color theory, and especially how to “see” as an artist. Over the past five years through workshops, DVD’s, Virtual Art Academy, museum study and the great teaching of Richard Schmid, she finally feels like she has a solid foundation to build upon.
“I have learned to only paint what I love and have deep feelings about. Hopefully, my passion will resonate with the viewer.”
“Art is our voice…the song of the heart” Richard Schmid
